The Sweetest Story for Mother’s Day, Meet the Heart Behind Bajo Cero.
When you step inside Bajo Cero San Marcos, you're greeted by more than just the sweet smell of ice cream—you’re welcomed with a smile and a warm greeting that make you feel like you belong. While this feeling may seem natural, it’s a culture intentionally created by the heart behind the authentic Mexican ice cream shop: Jazmin Deyerle.
Aguascalientes, Mexico’s flavors to Rock Hill, SC
Jazmin was inspired by her father, Jorge, who shared a dream with her before he passed away in 2021. He had always wanted to open an ice cream shop when Jazmin was a child, but life got in the way. Jazmin took the inspiration she garnered from her father and turned it into something positive, opening the Mexican-style ice cream shop that York County has grown to love: Bajo Cero San Marcos.
"Rock Hill has truly supported us and embraced our product. We’ve worked to incorporate my culture into some of the regular flavors, but with our own twist." - Jazmin
Now, Jazmin shares that same dream with her own children, passing down the values of hard work, dedication, and family. Their presence can be felt throughout the shop—whether it's in the design of the company logo or behind the counter, where Jazmin’s kids continue the tradition of providing the same customer service their mom set from day one. It’s clear that the legacy of love, culture, and community that Jazmin’s father inspired has lived on through the generations, making Bajo Cero San Marcos not just a business, but a family tradition.
"Hopefully, they also see me learn from them. They get to see that life isn’t easy, but we have to do our best. I hope they see me be kind to people, even when people are not kind. It’s also so fun to be the awkward parent who embarrasses her kids by making videos or being goofy at work. We laugh, fight, make up, go to sleep, and try again every single day to do better than yesterday." – Jazmin, On her favorite part about working with her kids.
Balancing Life, Business, and Family.
Being a mom is challenging, but being a mom who runs a family business is a whole different story. Striking a balance between family life and managing a successful business has been the key to Jazmin’s success.
"Being a mom and a business owner feels like having two types of babies—and I can’t neglect one or the other." - Jazmin
One of the things Jazmin relies on is the village she’s built around her. She trusts her team to carry on her hard work with the same care and commitment she brings every day. It's about more than just delegating—it’s about creating a shared sense of pride and responsibility. Jazmin depends on her family and friends to step in when she can’t be there, knowing her customers will be treated with the same warmth and respect. And then there are Sundays—reserved for family. On Sundays, Bajo Cero doesn’t exist. It’s a time to unplug, reconnect, and just be together. Because to her, it’s always family first and the business second.
"You will make a thousand mistakes a day and all you can do is learn from them. To be present when you are home and not bring work home. (that is a a hard one). Love your babies so much because you blink and they are grown. Money, business, everything comes and goes but my babies… I will never get today back so be mommy first business owner second" - Jazmin, advice for other moms starting their own business
This Mother’s Day, take a moment to celebrate the strong, inspiring women who shape our lives—just like Jazmin has shaped hers around family, culture, and community. Stop by Bajo Cero San Marcos to experience the love and flavor for yourself, and while you’re at it, don’t forget to call your mom and wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. She deserves it.
