Nothing says summer in York County like the smell of fresh peaches, the hum of a pottery wheel, and the wide-eyed wonder of kids meeting a goat for the first time.
Back for its 13th year, the Ag + Art Tour of York County is set for June 7-8, 2025, and this year’s event promises to be the best and most vibrant yet. With 18 unique sites and artisans showcasing their work at each stop, this weekend-long celebration of local farming and handmade art is an unforgettable way to experience the heart of our community.
And did we mention it’s free?
Where Agriculture Meets Art (and a Whole Lot of Fun)
What started in 2012 as a local grassroots initiative has grown into the nation’s largest free self-guided farm and art tour, now spanning 22 South Carolina counties and drawing over 150,000 visitors to date. But it all began right here in York County.
Whether you’re a local looking to slow down and explore your own backyard or a visitor making the trip to discover authentic Southern charm, the Ag + Art Tour is your chance to meet the growers, makers, bakers, and dreamers who bring York County to life.
What to Expect on the Tour
Over the course of two days, you’ll cruise scenic backroads and stop at working family farms and farmers markets. Each stop offers something a little different:
-
Fresh-picked produce and farm store goodies (Pro tip: bring a cooler!)
-
Hands-on demos like basket weaving, sawmill shows, flower picking, and corn husk doll-making
-
Friendly animals from chickens and goats to alpacas and even a tortoise
-
Local artisans selling one-of-a-kind pottery, fiber art, soaps, baked goods, and more
-
Food trucks, live music, and sweet treats (hello, homemade ice cream at Black’s Peaches!)
Families will love sites like Crandall Bowles Children’s Farm, where little ones can feed animals and enjoy snow cones, or Creekside Farm of York, with its nature trails and bulldozer-themed playset. Creative types can catch a fiber art demo at Black Walnut Farmstead or a beekeeping session at Five Blossoms Farm. And if you're craving old-school summer magic, Forlines Farms on Ferndale will let you pick sun-warmed blueberries right off the bush.
Kick Off the Tour in Style
Mark your calendar for the Ag + Art Tour Kickoff Dinner at The Mercantile in Rock Hill on Sunday, June 1st from 5 to 8 PM. Enjoy locally sourced fare, meet participating farmers and artisans, and get a sneak peek at what this year’s tour has to offer.
“Many of the farms that joined the tour in 2012 still participate today, and many of the artisans return year after year,” says Melanie Cooper of the Arts Council of York County. “People from all over travel to our state to learn more about farming, the arts, and the communities they are in.”
