In the early 1990s, Fort Mill’s Kingsley came about when the Close-Springs family saw an opportunity to direct the growing Charlotte Metropolitan area towards Fort Mill. They developed the Clear Springs Development in 1997, intending to achieve their plan by opening Anne Springs Close Greenway, Baxter Village, and Kingsley. Kingsley was born out of the textile industry of the Springs Industry, and its development continues to this day. With 150,000 square feet of retail shops and restaurants, Kingsley has created over 5,000 new jobs and has become one of the most visited areas in all of York County.
