Rock Hill High School to host top youth boxing tournament in the Southeast with 2,300 expected in attendance

On May 16-19, the 2019 Southeastern Regional Junior Olympics Boxing Tournament will be in Rock Hill for the first time ever. The weekend tournament will be held at Rock Hill High School at 320 W. Springdale Rd., Rock Hill. Registration will take place from 7-9 PM on Thursday, May 16 at the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel Conference Room at 760 Galleria Blvd., Rock Hill.

Youth boxers in 6 different divisions such as 11-12 Male and Female, 13-14 Male and Female, and 15-16 Male and Female will compete in an advancing elimination-style tournament where winners from the four eldest divisions will advance to the National Junior Olympics in Madison, Wisconsin next month. This is the highest level of competition for athletes in the 11-12-year old Male and Female divisions. These athletes often continue on to compete in the Olympics or as professional boxers. There will also be a local amateur boxing competition held on Saturday, May 18 from 12-3PM as part of the event.

The Southeastern Regional Junior Olympics Boxing Tournament is the first Olympics-sanctioned boxing event ever to take place in Rock Hill. “Visit York County is excited to co-host this event with Light Bright Boxing. It’s been a pleasure to work with Mario to bring this first-time event to the county and this great opportunity to the athletes,” says Andy Clinton, VP of Sales for Visit York County.

Aside from competing, the boxers will also hear from local professional boxers LaVonte “The World-Class Gentleman” Earley, and former World Boxing Champion Lisa Garland.
