A.M.E. Zion Conference brings hundreds from around the world to Rock Hill

The African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church hosted its Tenth Quadrennial Lay Convocation in Rock Hill, SC this year. The convocation was held on March 17-19 at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center. There were nearly 500 people in attendance for this event. Many traveled from near and far to attend this year’s convocation. While many in attendance were from the East Coast, there were some in from West-Eastern Africa and the Caribbean.

Andy Clinton, group/sports market specialist with the Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) began working with the staff at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center back in February when the center’s staff hosted another conference that also brought in a large group. Andy was thrilled when Rev. George McCain and Rev. Dr. Kenneth Monroe called him up to assist with hosting another large group at the transformation center.

“York County is proud of its partnerships with some of the area’s top meeting facilities so when a new meeting site opens, we are delighted to introduce our services as the county’s destination marketing organization to help promote each venue and generate more meeting business for the county,” says Andy.

In case you were wondering about the CVB’s involvement with assisting meeting facilities and groups with marketing, here’s the breakdown in how the CVB can help meeting facilities generate business and also help make planning a lot easier for meeting planners.

The CVB…

  • Markets York County to attract leisure travelers, tour groups, sporting events, meetings and other traveler segments;
  • Partners with York County attractions, hotels, restaurants, meeting and sports facilities to bring them qualified leads and help increase business;
  • Provide travelers with pre-planning and other assistance during their stay, as needed; and
  • Promotes all the unique aspects of York County –historic, cultural, rural, environmental, recreational, shopping, dining, and sporting opportunities — that encourage visitation at all times during the year, but especially during the off and shoulder seasons.

It’s always a pleasure to have the support of county leaders when welcoming groups to the area. On Thursday evening, York County Councilman William “Bump” Roddey welcomed the group to Rock Hill and York County, SC.
